My Birth, My Voice — My Practical Birth Plan
Your birth. Your voice. Your plan.
Birth can feel like a long way away until suddenly there is so much to think about.
Where you'd like to give birth.
What matters to you during labour.
How you'd like to be supported.
Questions you want to ask.
Things you want your maternity team to understand.
My Birth, My Voice gives you space to bring your thoughts together.
This practical birth plan booklet has been created with Black women at the centre, recognising that feeling informed, listened to and respected can be an important part of preparing for birth.
It isn't about predicting exactly how your birth will unfold.
It's about taking time to consider what matters to you, understanding the conversations you may want to have and creating something you can use as a reference throughout your preparation.
Inside you'll find space to explore:
Your birth preferences
Where you would like to give birth
Who you'd like around you
Comfort and coping preferences
Pain relief and birth options
Communication and consent
Your questions and concerns
What you'd like your maternity team to know
Preferences for different possibilities
Your thoughts, wishes and priorities
Affirmations to support your preparation
Space to bring your plan together
Your voice belongs in your birth preparation
Your birth plan doesn't have to be a promise about how your birth will happen.
Plans can change.
Circumstances can change.
And that's okay.
Having a plan can simply give you a starting point for conversations and help you communicate the things that matter to you.
Think about it.
Talk about it.
Write it down.
Make it yours.
Created for Black women
CherisHer recognises that pregnancy and birth don't happen separately from culture, identity and lived experience.
This resource creates space for you to consider your birth in a way that reflects you — your preferences, your questions, your support system and what matters to you.
